Spec sheets don’t tell you how a flame pattern looks in a dim room, or whether your shoulders sit under the water. Stoves on the floor can be lit, and the display spas stay heated so you can get in. Bring a suit if you’d like to.

About the shop
Amador County runs from the valley floor up past 3,000 feet, and many homes up-country heat primarily with wood. That changes how a stove should be sized.
A unit that’s too big gets run choked down all winter, which is harder on the glass and the chimney and gives you less heat, not more. We size to the house — square footage, ceiling height, insulation, how open the floor plan is, and how you actually plan to use it. Same for spas: pad, power and cover all get sorted out before anything is ordered.
There has been a hearth shop at this address since 2006. Julie Cooper runs it now. She grew up in her father’s stove store in Eureka in the 1970s, sold stoves and saunas for years, and built custom saunas around Jackson Hole before taking over this location on Highway 49.

Common questions
It depends on square footage, ceiling height, insulation and how open the floor plan is. Homes that heat primarily with wood usually need more stove than a catalog chart suggests, and an oversized stove run choked down is harder on the glass and the chimney. Bring those numbers and we will size it with you.
A traditional steam sauna heats the air around you, working from the outside in. An infrared sauna heats your body directly at a lower air temperature, which many people find easier to sit in longer. Both are on the floor to compare.
Yes. Display spas are kept heated. Bring a suit and a towel, or call ahead and we will have things ready.
We offer independent installation options for stoves, spas and saunas, and we service existing units, including ones installed by the previous owners of this shop. Service parts and accessories are kept in stock.

Same location and same phone number. The hearth shop at Mother Lode Plaza has been here since 2006. Julie Cooper took it over from Stan and Shirley Hampton when they retired, kept the traditional wood stove lines, and added pellet, wood-gas and electric stoves along with spas and saunas.
